\u201cNon-human animals are sentient beings, not mere property, and must be afforded respect and legal recognition.\u201d \u00a0\u00a0\u201cMaking peace with nature is the defining task of the 21st<\/sup> century\u201d.\u00a0 United Nations Secretary General Antonio Guterres.<\/p>

Speciesism is the exploitation and violent abuse of individuals of other species.\u00a0 It is destroying the planet!\u00a0 The key to assuring a healthy planet, and the health of individuals of all species, lies in restoring humanity\u2019s broken relationship with nature and other species.\u00a0<\/p>

Speciesism is the relentless, brutal, and inexcusable exploitation of innocent defenseless individuals who are treated as \u2018food\u2019 and other commodities.\u00a0 Non-human animals are sentient beings who deserve respect, consideration, and enforceable rights.\u00a0<\/p>

Giving enforceable rights to members of all species is a simple solution to reduce climate change, reduce hunger, achieve food security, improve nutrition and human health, reduce human mortality and morbidity from diet related diseases such as heart disease, diabetes, and cancer, reduce poverty, and achieve justice for all inhabitants of planet Earth.<\/p>

Speciesism is a crime which should be recognized under international law.\u00a0 It is contrary to the spirit and aims of the United Nations and should be condemned by the civilized world.\u00a0 The exploitation and violent abuse of individuals of another species, is not recognized as a category of discrimination, and is widely tolerated throughout the world.\u00a0 Species other than human are excluded from any protection, are treated as objects instead of rights holders, and are subjected to violence and abuse of all kind.<\/p>

Speciesism is the leading cause of human hunger, food insecurity, pandemics, climate change, pollution of air, water, and land, biodiversity loss, species extinction, and habitat destruction.<\/p>

Species other than human are excluded from any protection, are treated as objects instead of rights holders.\u00a0 This ultimately causes human pandemics, which are almost always zoonotic in origin, diet related human diseases such as the Non-Communicable Diseases, Antibiotic Resistance, some Depressions, and many other human health issues, negatively affects planetary health causing global warming, species extinction, biodiversity loss, habitat destruction, pollution of land, water and air.\u00a0<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t

Speciesism is unjust, unsustainable, and destructive.\u00a0 It is treating animals as slaves of humans.\u00a0 These unfortunate individuals, are eaten, used for clothing, experiments, and entertainment, and have no rights of their own.\u00a0 All individuals, human and non-human, do not want to be treated better, they wanted to be free, and have rights.\u00a0<\/p>

There is no way to humanely, and safely, confine and exploit animals. This has not worked. The United Nations recommendation of stricter regulations of live markets, <\/strong>the UN Universal Declaration of Animal Welfare, and global investigations have not been effective in solving the problem.\u00a0 Neither have any local or national laws or ordinances.\u00a0<\/p>

The key to assuring a healthy planet, and the health of all individuals of all species, is to achieve justice for all inhabitants of Earth.\u00a0 Giving enforceable rights to members of all species is the only solution.\u00a0 Animals are the least protected and most exploited individuals on the planet \u2013 a planet that is currently on a trajectory headed for disaster if radical changes are not implemented.\u00a0 <\/em><\/p>

Unfortunate non-human individuals are unjustly incarcerated in disease ridden, horrific conditions, subjected to mutilation, violation, rape, kidnap of their children, and ultimately horrifically murdered, usually while fully conscious, all to satisfy the whims of those in power – humans – who are making themselves and the planet increasingly unhealthy in the process.\u00a0<\/p>

Exploited animals feel pain as humans do, have complex social and psychological lives, are innocent individuals who suffer rape, the loss of their children, violation of their bodies, experience fear and pain, are tortured and murdered with impunity, and have absolutely no recourse.\u00a0<\/p>

Exploitation of other than human species is an unjust war on the defenseless who have no rights, and deserve them. They are victims of exploitation, murder, species extinction, and habitat destruction.\u00a0<\/p>

Their exploitation is an unjust war on the defenseless.\u00a0 Their lives are calling out for justice, and we are experiencing a portion of that justice now in the global issues we are facing.\u00a0 The human species will not experience peace or safety while continuing to \u2018leave behind\u2019 and exploit other species.\u00a0<\/p>

The unfortunate non-human individuals, who are \u2018left behind\u2019, are eaten, used for clothing, experiments, and entertainment.\u00a0 They have no rights, and deserve rights as much as others on planet Earth.\u00a0 These individuals are our co-inhabitants on planet Earth!<\/p>

Vegan International is advocating a United Nations Convention Against Speciesism which would follow the Conventions Against Genocide, Torture, Eliminate Discrimination Against Women, and The Rights of the Child.\u00a0 It is a necessary step toward equality, justice, and health and safety for all inhabitants of planet Earth, and the Earth itself.<\/p>

There needs to be a radical, comprehensive approach to sustaining human health and preventing destruction of the planet.\u00a0 Recognizing the rights of nature, and all species, in a comprehensive, enforceable law – a United Nations Convention Against Speciesism is necessary for the survival of the planet.<\/p>

Vegan International\u2019s proposed United Nations Convention Against Speciesism is a significant, concrete and ambitious action that is a solution to human hunger, food insecurity, biodiversity loss, climate change, pandemics of zoonotic origin, pollution of air, land and water, as well as creating Justice for all on planet Earth.<\/p>

This proposed enforceable political instrument would provide the motivational force necessary to redirect investments from unhealthy economic practices in food choice and provide incentives to implement sustainable, healthy agricultural alternatives.<\/p>

This proposed new UN Convention would bring clarity to the nature of the rights of all species, and to the responsibilities necessary to protect them. It would view all species as rights-holders, and these rights would be in a single document. In addition, it would raise public awareness in those nations which do not ratify this Convention.<\/p>
